Barwood Cab Fleet: CNG Sedans
This light-duty alternative fuel vehicles (AFV) project was aimed at obtaining and making available detailed information on the costs, performance, and reliability of AFVs operating in fleet service. Because vehicles in this type of fleet accumulate mileage quickly, emissions testing was also performed.
The Barwood Cab Company, based in Kensington, Maryland, was the host fleet for this project. All the study vehicles were 1996 Ford Crown Victorias: 10 were dedicated compressed natural gas (CNG) models, and 10 were standard gasoline models. We collected operating and maintenance records and cost information on all 20 vehicles over 12 months, and also conducted emissions tests on selected vehicles at three high-mileage intervals (60,000; 90,000; and 120,000 miles).
