Workplace Charging Resources

Many plug-in vehicle owners will do the majority of their charging at home, or in the case of fleets, at fleet facilities. In many states, plug-in vehicle drivers also have access to public charging stations at libraries, shopping centers, hospitals, and businesses. Charging infrastructure is rapidly expanding, providing drivers with the convenience, range, and confidence they require. The Vehicle Technologies Office offers a number of resources relevant to companies looking to install workplace charging infrastructure.

The Alternative Fuel Data Center's section on Plug-in Vehicles provides basic information on these cars and the Electricity Infrastructure Development section offers an overview of the types of charging equipment available.
The AFDC's Alternative Fuel Station Locator shows where current public charging already exists.

The Plug-in Electric Vehicle Handbook for Public Charging Station Hosts describes the benefits and costs of hosting a charging station, ownership models, and the basic process of installation.
Clean Cities, the deployment arm of the Vehicle Technologies Office, works with nearly 100 coalitions across the country that help local stakeholders adopt alternative fuel vehicles, including electric vehicles. See if there is a coalition near your business with the Find My Local Coalition tool.
Clean Cities supported 16 electric vehicle community readiness projects to develop strategies and best practices that encourage the use of electric vehicles and the installation of charging infrastructure. The recipients will be completing their projects soon and releasing a variety of documents to help businesses and municipalities in their areas.
Charging Where You Work: A Guide for Expanding Electric Vehicle Infrastructure at the Workplace by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is a handbook explaining the workplace charging's benefits, as well as the key planning and implementation steps for companies to take to install workplace charging.

Particularly in-depth issues may require help from our staff at the National Laboratories. Organizations can apply for Tiger Team assistance if they have already attempted to solve the problem on their own through the resources above and believe solving their problem could help others as well.
