Replacement Fuel Goal Modification
The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct 1992) directed the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to evaluate periodically the statutorily-established "Replacement Fuel Goal" of replacing 30% of U.S. motor fuel use with replacement fuels by 2010. At any time, if DOE finds that this goal is not practical and achievable, then it must modify the goal.
In March 2007, DOE issued a final rule modifying the Replacement Fuel Goal. This rule extends to 2030 the EPAct 1992 goal of achieving a national production capacity for replacement fuels sufficient to replace 30% of the U.S. motor fuel consumption.
