More People Can Name Hybrid Cars in 2003

In December 2003, survey respondents were asked to name a hybrid electric car. The same question was also asked during surveys in 2000, 2001, and 2002. In 2003, the share of respondents who did not know any hybrid vehicles was down to 47% from a high of 64% in 2000 when hybrids were fairly new to the automobile market.

However, work is still necessary to get to word out about hybrid technology. When respondents were asked in December 2003 how much they had heard about hybrid technology, 22% answered that they had heard nothing.
