Import Share of Petroleum Consumption at All-Time High
The amount of petroleum imported (net imports) to the United States in 2004 was 57.8% of the petroleum consumed in that year, which is the highest import share in the 31-year series. Over this period, imports accounted for the lowest share of consumption in 1985.
