U.S. Oil Consumption Over 20 Million Barrels per Day in 2004

The United States consumed 20.5 million barrels of oil per day in 2004, more than half of which (11.9 million barrels per day net) came from imports. Since 1998, the United States has imported over 50% of the oil it has consumed. Imports from the Persian Gulf region in 2004 were 2.5 million barrels per day, which amounts to 12.1% of U.S. consumption.
