Fact #363: March 14, 2005 Heavy Truck Miles by Age
The recently released 2002 Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS) data show that one-year-old heavy trucks are driven an average of 81,700 miles a year. As the age of the truck increases, the truck's average annual miles decrease.

Note: Heavy truck is defined as over 26,000 lb gross vehicle weight rating as decoded from the Vehicle Identification Number of the truck. Only trucks in use during 2002 were included.
