DOE Solicits Feedback on Draft of Algal Biofuels Roadmap
June 11, 2009
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a request for information (RFI) to solicit feedback on the draft National Algal Biofuels Technology Roadmap. This draft roadmap was prepared by a working group commissioned by DOE.
On December 9-10, 2008, DOE conducted the National Algal Biofuels Technology Roadmap Workshop at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center. This workshop was held to assess the current state of algae technology and to determine the next steps toward commercialization of algal biofuel processes. The results of the workshop provided a basis for the draft National Algal Biofuels Technical Roadmap. Chairs and co-chairs for each of the nine breakout sessions outlined chapters for the draft based upon feedback from workshop participants. Details on the workshop, including a brief summary, can be found at the following Web address: http://www.orau.gov/algae2008pro.
The Roadmap will assist in the development of an algae research and development focus within the DOE’s Office of the Biomass Program. DOE would like to reach out to relevant stakeholders that did not participate in the December workshop; however, this does not preclude individuals who attended the workshop from providing input. Reponses to the RFI will be reviewed and considered for incorporation into the finalized roadmap for public release.
Please use the e-center Web site to view the complete RFI, download the Draft Roadmap and all supporting RFI documents, and view the comment submission procedures.
DOE will review all responses and consider them in their formulation of program strategies. DOE will not pay for information provided and there is no guarantee that there will be a Funding Opportunity Announcement as a result of this RFI.
