ARPA-E: Open Funding Opportunity Announcement
The Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) is currently supporting a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to address the challenges imposed by the rapidly evolving global energy market. Through this FOA, ARPA-E seeks to support transformational research in all areas of energy research and development, including the use of water resources to produce energy—specifically, technologies for capturing and/or converting hydrokinetic energy such as ocean, osmotic, tidal, etc. For more information on this solicitation, titled Open Funding Opportunity Announcement (Open FOA) – DE-FOA-0000670, visit the ARPA-E Funding Opportunity Exchange webpage. See Categories 1 and 5 of that solicitation for information on the specific opportunity related to water power. Letters of intent for this solicitation are due March 30 and Concept Papers are due April 12. The deadline for full applications is yet to be determined.
Small Business Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)
DOE's Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) Program is accepting pre-applications for a future FOA to support energy technology development in areas including hydropower and marine and hydrokinetic energy. SBIR/STTR efforts support DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, which invests in clean energy R&D to reduce the cost of technologies that enable the efficient use of energy and/or the generation of renewable energy. For more information on this solicitation, titled FY 2012 SBIR/STTR Phase I (Release 3) Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), visit the SBIR/STTR Funding Opportunities page and explore Topics under the Future Announcements heading. The pre-application deadline for this announcement is May 1. The full FOA will be issued on April 3 and full applications will be due July 3.Read more about Water Program News and Research and Development
