DOE Provides $610,000 to Improve State Energy Policies

September 12, 2007

DOE announced on September 12th that it will provide $610,000 to enact meaningful energy policies at the state level. The funding will support the National Governors Association's (NGA) efforts to increase state and federal collaboration and to assist states in addressing disruptions to electricity supply. Specifically, $550,000 will go to the NGA's Securing a Clean Energy Future Initiative. The initiative brings together governors and senior policymakers at national energy summits, as well as provides guidance and technical support for developing state energy policy, leveraging research and development investments, and using public assets and policies to encourage the private sector to use advanced energy technologies. The remaining $60,000 will be used to conduct forums and workshops on energy assurance and securing energy infrastructure.

DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and Office of Electricity Delivery and Reliability are contributing funds, which will be provided this fiscal year. See the DOE press release and the Web site for the NGA's Securing a Clean Energy Future Initiative.
