Colorado Approves Resource Plan with Potential for 1,450 Megawatts of Renewable Energy

The Colorado Public Utilities Commission has issued a decision approving an Xcel Energy resource plan to supply power through 2015. That plan includes the potential to add up to 600 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy resources with storage capability, such as concentrating solar power, and 850 MW of intermittent renewable energy resources, such as wind.

The plan also promotes energy savings, advances Colorado toward the state’s carbon reduction goals, ensures an adequate supply of resources in the future, and aims to keep consumers’ energy costs low. The 132-page decision concludes months of testimony, public participation, and review.
