New England Wind Forum Helps You Follow Wind-Related Events
January 14, 2013
Did you know that the New England Wind Forum (NEWF) website has an events calendar for wind-related events throughout New England? Events include conferences, workshops, and siting hearings in New England. Here is a sampling of three organizations hosting recurring events.
Massachusetts Wind Working Group Meetings
The Massachusetts Wind Working Group meets several times a year to bring together wind energy stakeholders to collaborate and discuss various topics relating to wind energy development, including barriers and opportunities, industry challenges, and public understanding and awareness. Meetings in the past year have focused on wind turbine siting and acoustics, long-term contracts, the Massachusetts Wind Turbine Health Impact Study, and stakeholder engagement. Past presentations from meetings are available. The Wind Working Group will continue to hold regular meetings, all of which are free and open to the public. For more information or to be added to the email list, contact Jody Lally at the University of Massachusetts Wind Energy Center.
The Offshore Wind Energy Information Exchange
The Island Institute is a membership-based community development organization focusing on the 15 year-round island communities off the Maine coast. In an effort to engage a broad range of stakeholders to better understand the costs and benefits of ocean renewable energy developments, the Island Institute began the Offshore Wind Energy Information Exchange in May 2011. Since then, the Offshore Wind Energy Information Exchange project has conducted several events and site visits, including:
- "An Introduction to the Offshore Wind Energy Information Exchange"
- "On the Horizon" film screening and panel discussion
- "The Sights and Sounds of Offshore Wind Energy"
- Maine Fishermen's Forum 2012.
Presentations, information from all past events, and notices of future events can be found on the Offshore Wind Energy Information Exchange's Web page.
The Environmental Business Council of New England Events and Presentations
The Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) hosts regular renewable energy events, sometimes with a focus on wind energy. Recent wind-related EBC events include:
- Wind Turbine Noise and Health Impacts - Report of the Massachusetts Expert Panel
- Update on Wind Energy in Rhode Island
- Status of Offshore Wind Planning in New England: Reviewing the Building Blocks of an Emerging Industry.
A list of upcoming EBC programs and events can be found under Programs and Events on the EBC website.
