The Iowa Utilities Board Estimates: 20% of All Energy Generated in Iowa Is from Wind
August 16, 2011
The Iowa Utilities Board recently posted a report, which estimates that as of January 2010, 17%-20% of all electricity generated in the state now comes from wind. This estimate, which is based on Iowa’s currently installed wind capacity, its average wind capacity factor and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)—U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) figures for electricity generated in Iowa in 2008, puts Iowa at #1 in the country for wind generation output as a percentage of all electricity generated in the state. Not too shabby. Read more about Iowa’s wind development over the years and why Iowa is a hot spot for wind development on the Iowa Utilities Board site.
