Web-Based Tool Updated to Aid in Evaluating Best Use of Incentive Dollars
August 28, 2012
Numerous policies, assumptions, wind turbine details, and user interface elements are now updated in the Distributed Wind Policy Comparison Tool, still available for free public access thanks to additional Energy Department funding and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Recent updates include retail electric rates and renewable energy credit prices; adjustments to power curves, ratings, pricing, and towers for certified wind turbine models available for review; an increase of the wind shear factor assumption; and operational and display edits. Initially released in mid-2011, the Policy Tool is a dashboard-interfaced pro forma financial model that calculates the impacts that rebates, tax credits, feed-in tariffs, and other incentives and policies have on small wind turbine project economics.
