Wind Siting Tools

Access tools to assist in preliminary screening of wind sites and potential impacts to federal mission areas, such as radar and wildlife.

Environmental Conservation Online System

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Environmental Conservation Online System (ECOS) provides access to data systems in the Endangered Species and Fisheries and Habitat Conservation program areas plus other Fish and Wildlife Service and government data sources. ECOS also provides the ECOS Mapper, which is a tool for visualizing information generated by ECOS.

Long Range Radar Tool

The Federal Aviation Administration's long range radar tool allows for preliminary prescreening of potential sites related to long-range radar.

Next Generation Weather Radar

Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler (WSR-88D) radars are the product of the Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) Program, a joint effort of the Departments of Commerce, Defense, and Transportation — the NEXRAD tri-agencies. The WSR-88Ds are often referred to as "NEXRADs." These radars scan the atmosphere continuously. Once wind farm tower locations and turbine height details are known, the WSR-88D Radar Operations Center can perform a detailed analysis identifying potential impacts of wind turbine installations on neighboring weather radars.
