Using the Marine and Hydrokinetic Technology Database
The Marine and Hydrokinetic Technology Database describes technologies, companies, and projects. Instructions for each section of the “Advanced Search” screen and the results pages are included
below.
Advanced Search
The “Advanced Search” screen allows you to search the database using multiple filters. You may search using any combination of filters by selecting boxes from any of the
various criteria below. Projects will be returned only if they meet ANY of the criteria selected in ALL the categories for which you select an option. If you leave all
options unchecked in any category, that category will not affect your search. When you’ve selected all of the filters you’d like, click the “search” button at the bottom of
the screen.
You Must Select One
You must select one of these filters: technology, company, or project. Depending on what filter is selected, it will
determine how the results page is sorted.
Country/Region
By checking one or more boxes, you may search the database for companies and projects located in a particular area. For companies and projects in the United States,
you may further limit your search by checking one or more boxes from the list of
sub-regions of the United States (PDF 1.06MB)(Download Adobe PDF Reader). The search will in include all technologies,
companies, or projects located in the area represented by any checked box. If no boxes are checked, the search will not be limited by location.
Technology Application/Type
By checking one or more boxes, you may search the database by technology applications, or if more specificity is desired, by technology types. If a given technology
could not be categorized by existing technology types, the technology is considered to be “other.” The search will include all technologies, companies, or projects that
fit the technology application/type represented by the checked box. If no boxes are checked, the search will not be limited by technology application/type.
Technology Stage
By checking one or more boxes, you may search the database for technologies, and the companies and projects that employ them, which are in a particular development
stage. Projects that appear on the results page will encompass companies whose technologies are undergoing partial or full scale device testing. The search will
include all projects that fit the technology stage represented by any checked box. If no boxes are checked, the search will not be limited by technology stage.
Project Status
By checking one or more boxes, you may search the database for projects that use a technology, which will be or has been deployed.
The “Phase 1 – Siting/Planning” box should be selected to display projects and their respective companies whose technologies are not
yet in the water. The “Phase 2 – Site Development” box should be selected to display projects and their respective companies who have
selected a site and begun site preparations (e.g. installation of a sub-sea cable). The “Phase 3 – Device Testing” box should be
selected to display projects where devices are undergoing testing/commissioning before deployment. The “Phase 4 – Partial Deployment”
box should be selected to display projects where an initial unit has been installed, but the project will be expanded contingent upon
device performance at a particular site. The “Phase 5 – Full Deployment” box should be selected to display projects that have been
completed with all device units in the water (completed projects may or may not be grid connected) or past pilot projects that have
had a removal of all devices and environmental remediation. The search will include all projects that fit the project status
represented by any checked box. If no boxes are checked, the search will not be limited by project status.
Recent Updates
By clicking on the pull-down menu, you may search the database for technologies, companies, or projects that have been published or updated within the past week,
month, 90 days, or year. Note that any change to the publication status of a technology, company, or project will reset the date, so some technologies, companies,
or projects may show up even if they have been available online for longer than the specified time frame. If no time period has been selected, the search will not be
limited by the time of the last update.
Sort Column
After clicking the “Submit” button at the bottom of the Advanced Search page, or any of the “List all” links to the left, a results page will appear.
You may alphabetically sort some of the columns by clicking on the hyperlinked column titles.
