U.S. Wind Manufacturing Workshop
Here you'll find information about the U.S. Wind Manufacturing Workshop, which was held on August 27-28, 2008. An overview of the event and presentations are available.
Overview
On August 27-28, the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind and Hydropower Technologies Program hosted a workshop in Washington, D.C., that focused on the manufacturing base needed to achieve 20% wind energy by 2030. The purpose of this workshop was to discuss possible strategies and actions for the U.S. wind manufacturing sector which would enable the wind industry to reach 300 GW of installed capacity by 2030.
The workshop attracted over 80 participants from industry, government, and the national laboratories. Major topics of discussion included advances in design, process automation, and fabrication techniques to reduce product variability and premature failure while increasing the domestic manufacturing base. The workshop also covered transportation and logistics, materials, policy suggestions, and workforce requirements.

Request for Information
The Wind and Hydropower Technologies Program sought additional input from the public regarding the 20% Wind Energy by 2030 Workshop and the Wind Manufacturing Workshop proceedings under Request for Information DE-PS36-09GO039008-RFI. Public comments were submitted under the Request for Information (RFI) from February 26 through April 3, 2009.
The Program received almost 80 responses under the RFI from various entities including developers, investors, industry, other federal and state governments, renewable energy equipment suppliers, electric utilities, independent power producers, environmentalists, academics, and public, private, or non-profit entities. The information collected may be used for internal DOE planning and decision-making.
