The U.S. Department of Energy will only host courses relevant to its core mission. However, other agencies, organizations and individuals are encouraged to download the NTER software (which is open source and free) to host their own content.
The initial courses available in NTER will address building science at all levels, from the role of pressure diagnostics in ensuring safe indoor air quality, to the proper installation techniques for various cost-effective energy-saving measures. Courses provide an individualized learning experience that adapts to the needs of each student.
Training support can be tailored to weatherization service providers at all skill levels and positions, including installer/technician, crew chief, auditor, and inspector. Our first available course, "Installer Fundamentals," outlines weatherization basics and teaches the importance of ventilation. Developed by the Department of Energy, the course includes specifically developed, interactive modules as well as access to previously existing training materials developed within the Weatherization network.
Future courses are currently being developed in solar code inspection, industrial steam process, qualified inspector training for the Home Energy Score, and a variety of internal mandatory compliance courses.
