News in Brief: Reusable Dishware Saves Money
August 6, 2010
As part of the 2010 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant, DuPage County has received more than $4.5 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy. These funds have been appropriated in support of a number of projects to be completed before October of 2012.
While many of these projects are still under way, one has yielded particularly impressive savings on the county's behalf. In the past year, the DuPage County Office of Green Initiatives has worked in coordination with the DuPage Convalescent Center to convert the procurement of disposable dishware to that of reusable dishware by the Convalescent Center.
By investing in dishware which is simply cleaned and reused, DuPage County has already netted tremendous savings. By the end of July, the energy savings were greater than 255,000 kWh since the implementation of the program. The dishware has saved DuPage County $35.90 every day, or more than $13,000 on an annual basis. Link to article:
