Rulemaking for Ceiling Fan Light Kits Test Procedure
A “ceiling fan light kit” (CFLK) is a piece of equipment designed to provide light from a ceiling fan. It may be integral to the ceiling fan or attachable. The Department of Energy (DOE) is establishing test procedures for Ceiling Fan Light Kits. This rulemaking is mandated by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA). (42 U.S.C. 6291-6309)

DOE is conducting a rulemaking regarding energy conservation standards for ceiling fans. For more information, please see the rulemaking webpage.
The Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA), as amended, established the "Energy Conservation Program for Consumer Products Other Than Automobiles." (42 U.S.C. § 6291–6309) The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA 2007) amended EPCA to require that at least once every 7 years, DOE must conduct an evaluation of all covered products and either amend the test procedures or publish a determination in the Federal Register not to amend them.
