Rulemaking for Commercial Clothes Washers Energy Conservation Standard
The Department of Energy (DOE) is considering whether to revise its energy conservation standards for commercial clothes washers. This current rulemaking will satisfy the requirement to publish the second
final rule by January 1, 2015 as mandated by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act (EPCA).

DOE published a final rule regarding energy conservation standards for commercial clothes washers. 79 FR 74492 (December 15, 2014).

Part C of Title III of EPCA (42 U.S.C. 6311-6317) as amended through the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 sets forth a variety of provisions designed to improve the energy efficiency of commercial equipment, including commercial clothes washers. EPCA required completion of the first
rulemaking by January 1, 2010, and DOE must complete the second rulemaking by January 1, 2015. (42 U.S.C. 6313(e)).
