DOE Seeks Input on National Energy Rating Program for Homes

June 9, 2010

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) invites interested parties to submit comments to assist in developing a voluntary National Energy Rating Program for Homes. The deadline for comments is July 10, 2010.

The purpose of this new rating program is to provide consumers with consistent and reliable information about the energy performance of their homes and encourage them to invest in cost-effective energy improvements. The program is meant to complement existing home retrofit efforts such as Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, weatherization, and other state and local energy efficiency initiatives.

DOE is considering a wide range of issues for this program, including how to measure energy performance, what performance metrics to use, and how best to present information to consumers.
