DOE Deploys Energy Saving Team at Pennsylvania Prison Complex

December 9, 2005

A federal Energy Saving Team visited a Bureau of Prisons facility in Allenwood, Pennsylvania, on December 9th to identify low-cost and no-cost measures to save energy and money. The team is also conducting energy efficiency training, providing summary assessments of long-term efficiency opportunities, and working with on-site personnel to develop an implementation plan. The visit is part of DOE's "Easy Ways to Save Energy" campaign, which in the coming months will send Energy Saving Teams to the 30 largest federal facilities and the top 200 energy-intensive manufacturing facilities in the United States. See the DOE press release.

The Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex, located in the northern Allegheny Mountains, consists of four facilities, ranging from a minimum security camp to a high-security federal penitentiary. See the Bureau of Prisons Web site.
