Approximately 200 representatives from U.S. industry, utilities, federal and state government, energy service companies, academia, and industry associations descended upon New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 20–21, 2010, to attend the Gulf Coast Industrial Energy Efficiency Forum to learn how they can partner together to help reduce industrial energy consumption. The Forum’s participants from industry met with technical and financial resource providers to discuss how to leverage each other’s resources in order to implement energy efficiency projects in Alabama, east Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, among other neighboring states.
The event also featured a Save Energy Now LEADER Pledge-signing event, during which Alcoa, CalPortland, Eastman, Lufkin Industries, and Raytheon formally pledged to reduce energy intensity 25% over the next 10 years with ITP’s assistance. An Energy Saver and Energy Champion awards ceremony was also held for companies that have reduced energy consumption a minimum of 7.5% or 15.0%, respectively, since participating in an assessment through the ITP Save Energy Now initiative. Lori LeBlanc, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, helped distribute awards to the awardees.
