Arizona Utility Opens First Wind Farm

November 18, 2011

The Macho Spring wind farm was completed this month and is now online in Deming, New Mexico. The wind farm has 28 Vestas wind turbines, generating 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The wind turbines will supply enough renewable energy to power about 14,000 homes.

Developed and owned by Element Power US, LLC, Macho Springs began construction in January on about 2.000 acres of private land. Macho Springs will sell power to Tucson Electric Power (TEP), an Arizona utility, through a long-term power purchase agreement.

Macho Springs is the first source of wind energy utilized by TEP in their effort to provide people with power from renewable sources like wind and solar. To learn more about the Macho Springs wind farm project, read the TEP press release.
