Advancing from Foundational Level 1 to ISO 50001 Level 2 for Step 5
For foundational energy management (Level 1), continual improvement of energy performance relies on the setting of energy objectives and targets and achieving them through action plans, which turn energy opportunities into energy projects. The same is true for ISO 50001 (Level 2). However, ISO 50001 is also concerned with continual improvement of the energy management system (EnMS). Combined with more extensive energy performance data and analyses, this means that an ISO 50001 management review involves a more detailed evaluation of your organization’s energy performance and includes review of the performance of the EnMS.
To ensure that your organization continues to be capable of improving its energy performance, the EnMS must be maintained, updated and modified as appropriate. The energy management needs of your organization will change over time. Effective functioning of the EnMS provides the foundation needed to achieve and sustain energy savings for the long term. Implementing the actions and decisions made by top management in the management review process is critical to ensuring the ongoing adequacy, suitability and effectiveness of the EnMS and the continual improvement of your organization’s energy performance.
