Step 2.1 Identify and evaluate legal and other requirements

Transition to SEP

SEP requires the implementation of an energy management system (EnMS) that conforms with ISO 50001. The energy planning process described in section 4 of ISO 50001 requires the identification of legal and other requirements associated with your energy use, consumption and efficiency. The commitment to SEP needs to be identified within the EnMS and should be supported by top management through the allocation of resources necessary to implement and maintain the EnMS and SEP.

How to do it

The following action will help you meet SEP requirements related to ISO 50001 Legal and Other requirements:

2.1.4 Include SEP commitments in other requirements

SEP needs to be identified as an “other requirement” subscribed to by your organization related to energy use, consumption and efficiency. This task builds upon task 2.1.2 in Level 2 ISO 50001 Energy Management, which directs your organization to identify and have access to the other energy requirements to which your organization complies.

Information on SEP requirements related to other requirements can be found in ANSI/MSE 50021:

ANSI/MSE 50021

Section 4.4.2 requires that SEP commitment be included in the “other” requirements recognized by your organization as part of its EnMS.

SEP M&V Protocol

There are no additional requirements related to the SEP M&V Protocol.

SEP Scorecard Credits for the Mature Pathway
